This week's letter is from "Lerato", in Grahamstown, South Africa! Lerato writes: Dear Dr Wang,
I have a hang of a problem at the moment. I started a relationship with an oke from work. We keep our dating secret, as I do not want the boss to find out. You see, our boss is what we in Mzansi call a skollie, someone not to be trusted at all. I actually think he has caught on and has followed us several times after we finish work. I can't figure out how he knows. I've only told one other chommie at work about what we have going on, but I am beginning to wonder. Can you tell me of she betrayed my trust? I'm not planning to confront her just now, but I need to know if she is a skollie as well. What if my boss does find out, will we both lose our jobs? Should I break it off now or find a new job? I kindly await your response.
Thanks my bru, Lerato
Dr Wang responds: Dear Larato,
I am fascinated by your e-mail. I had to re-read it a few times to understand some of the South African lingo, but I have the gist of it. You are asking some specific questions, so I have consulted The Great Bubble Wall in my tank for answers to what you ponder. The pattern of bubbles, and the velocity of their movement indicate that someone has in fact betrayed you. It is quite likely the "chommie" to which you refer. Tread lightly with this person and do not confide anything you do not wish to be shared. Your boss on the other hand is quite another matter. He is a shifty soul, a skollie, using your word. This will be resolved in the very near future, as your boss is about to be resassigned to Tangier to work in a cubic zirconium plant. Until that happens however, do not tempt fate. He is in fact watching you and has been building a file against you. Be sure you perform all of your work responsibilities accurately and on time. As far as this office romance, I suggest you follow this advice: "If you don't want anyone to know, don't do it"
Keep swimming upstream,
-Dr Wang
