I've always liked going to those Japanese Steakhouse restaurants that cook right in front of you. It's the perfect night out: dinner with free entertainment. It had been about a year since I had last been to one, so I was looking forward to a night of festivities and good food. I started my evening with a most delicious martini, made with some weird Japanese grapes. I happily sipped my cocktail and watched the Japanese Chef take our orders and prepare his grill for the big cooking show. I watched closely, looking for ideas and cooking secrets of this master chef. He started the evening with some fire...
Above left: The opening "fire" that had us all going "ooooooo" and "aahhhhhh" & above right: the chicken hits the grill.
Above: The Scallops were delicious...seasoned and prepared to a golden brown right before our eyes.
Above: A little Beef Tenderloin & a little more fire, just for good measure.
Above: Then the veggies were seasoned and grilled..onions, peppers, mushrooms and bean sprouts.
Above: The Onion Volcano before..and then in flames...
Above: Now some Lobster Tail....cooked carefully...and then smothered with some not-so-heart-friendly butter.
....and finally, some fried rice. Mmmmmm-good.

ReplyDeleteI'll be in So Cal the early part of November. We have no real itinerary and was thinking about droppingg in PS for a visit. Then again, we may not. It just depends but if I get there, I'll give you a call at the store just to say hello and maybe you and yours will meet us for coffee somewhere.
We'll have to see how the mop flops since we have no concrete plans other than we will definitely be in So Cal after the first of November.

I have to admit when I first saw your photo drinking a martini, it seemed like you were sporting the Vincent Price look with a thin mustache and goatee until I realized it was the glass.

my gosh that looks so delicious. I have not been to one in a really long time...you've motivated me to go this weekend. Sure beats cooking on your own.

ReplyDeleteMmmm...I love these places too! Every year my family and I go to one on Christmas night. Why? Because one year we were hungry and this was the only place open! Now it's a tradition.
ReplyDeleteThe funniest thing is when they try to fling food at you so you can catch it in your mouth-one year they did this to my little sister who is a vegetarian. She refused to even human him by pretending to miss, which was of course, wicked funny. (For us) She was grossed out and bent out of shape! LOL

Great post Rick. It brought back happy memories of the first time I visited a Japanese restaurant last year. I loved how the chef "performed" as he cooked the food in front of us. He was in an authentic costume and looked a bit like he had stepped off the set of the Karate Kid. It was a great night. Looks like you had fun too!
