Word from a Friend
I spoke with a friend of mine yesterday who was evacuated from her home, and fled to a friend's home for safety. However, her friend's home received a "reverse 911" call in the middle of the night instructing them to evacuate. It's scary having to be awakened by that type phone call. I have not spoken with her today, I hope she is still OK and safe.
Latest Developments
- A few smaller new blazes broke out yesterday, as if the firefighters didn't have enough to worry about.
- They are reporting that 1,300 houses and other structures have been destroyed
- Over 500,000 people are still unable to return to their homes, and CNN is reporting that nearly 950,000 people in total have fled, either under mandatory or voluntary evacuations orders.
- With fresh details in from the massive fire damage yesterday, President Bush declared San Diego County and six other counties in Southern California as major federal disaster areas. This made us eligible to receive emergency funds and additional resources.
- Tomorrow the President is visiting San Diego County to check things out, which should bring a lot of media attention and focus.

It's getting to the point where I'm numb from watching all this.
ReplyDeleteRick, I'm posting fire location maps generated by researchers at SDSU at my blog. I'll be updating them throughout the day.

By the way, love your blog! The psychic betta is positively inspired!
ReplyDeletehow dreadful for your friend...I do hope she is OK. let us know when you hear from her.
ReplyDeleteI just received information that msnbc.msn.comhas live news coverage of the fires in San Diego online.
ReplyDeleteMan, oh man, what a mess. I don't watch TV in my home so seeing it online is really an eye catcher and one I'm sure we can all do without. MSNBC has more information about other stuff related to the areas, for its viewers, as well.
It's really hard to watch the coverage on TV. You must feel proud to work for PETCO and it sounds like you all have done a wonderful job of helping out. I can't think how important having pets after all else is lost will be. Thanks for sharing your photos and experiences. I'll be happy to hear that the winds have died down. Keep us posted.
ReplyDeleteYes, thanks for the updates. I wish I could send the rare rain we're getting out your way. I've been watching the TV coverage for hours.
ReplyDeleteI've been wondering what a R911call is and wow, you are so right! How scary...I hope all is safe...so so sad..
ReplyDeleteyou captured the essence of this tragedy perfectly!
Always,
