The Saturday Seven: Funny Female Friendships

Good friendships are perhaps one of the most valuable things in life to have. Friendships enrich our lives, keep us laughing and get us through the week. Photo at left: Friends Betty White, Lucille Ball and Carol Channing. For some reason women tend to develop close friendships, diferent from men. So I started thinking about women with famously funny friendships. This brings me to another scintillating edition of: The Saturday Seven: Funny Female Friendships.
#1 Mary Tyler-Moore, flanked by friends Phyllis and Rhoda

#2 Vera Charles & Mame Dennis (from Auntie Mame)

#3 Sophia, Blanche, Rose and Dorothy, from The Golden Girls
#4 Ethyl and Lucy, from I Love Lucy

#5 Edina Monsoon & Patsy Stone, from Absolutely Fabulous
#6 Real life Friends Joan Crawford, Judy Garland & Jane Wyman. How I love this photo. Don't you just wonder what they are laughing about?

#7 Laverne & Shirley
Bonus entry: The women from Steel Magnolias. Truth be told, I forgot this one, but fortunately hoosiergirl5 reminded me in a comment. An obvious miss on my part, so I HAD to go back and add it as a bonus entry for this week. It really belongs in the first 7, but oh well.

What other famous Funny Female Friendships can you recall? As long as it's all women, let's hear who else I've forgotten...Go ahead, leave a comment, it's fun, and it's FREE!

  1. Thelma and Louise?

    The women from Steel Magnolias?

Grace and Karen, from Will and Grace?

    The women from Friends?

Just a few ideas. By the way, I heard a Petco commercial on the radio last night. Does that mean there's a Petco in the Louisville area? Will you come for a visit? (she asks hopefully)

  2. You have struck a beautiful, poingant, nerve with me....some of the greatest of TV times have been with these amazing groups of girls. And Bea is one of my favorites....we saw her show a year or two ago.

  4. You took me on a trip down memory land. All those fabulous sit-coms and movies. Here are the ones I thought of:
Kate and Ally; Chrissy and Janet (3's Company); The Charlie's Angels; Alice, Vera, and Flo (from Alice & Mel's Diner); Ginger and Mary Ann (Gilligan's Island)...and I am sure that there are more!
    Thanks for the memories!

  6. Thanks Rick!! I really enjoyed this stroll down memory lane. The ones that came to my mind also were the gals from Charlie's Angels... Chrissy and janet from Three's Company (later Terri and Cindy) ....Edith Bunker and Louise Jefferson...and of course the most important one is Wilma Flintstone and Betty Rubbel...lol.

    Thanks again for sharing.

  8. J- good question...I don't know if we're opening a store in your area. Interesting that you heard a radio commercial, guessing that its for one of the southern IL stores we have. I'll check on Monday and let you know!

  9. I loved watching all of these programs....my friend Janice and I are just like this. We have had years of getting into trouble together, raising kids, our friendship has lasted longer than our marriages! Its always a comfort knowing shes in my corner. If I told her we were going to rob a bank she would say when? lol

  10. My favorite is Ab Fab. I adore them. They remind me of me and my friend, Zoe, in college. Although Steel Magnolias is a close second because I played Shelby in that show and the friendships in there really are amazing. :)
