Getting Festive at Work

Yesterday I decided it was time to bring a little holiday cheer to the office, so I stopped at a drug store on the way to work and bought a cheap-ass artificial Christmas tree and a bunch of decorations. Its one of those 4' high trees with the lights already on the branches. Since I am in the dog food business, I placed a variety of natural and organic dog food cans under the tree, instead of Christmas presents. (okay I am a little weird). Feeling less and less like Ebeneezer Scrooge with every ornament I hung, I felt the ice melt away from my heart and I went ahead and put up stockings with candy canes. At least the office looks festive now and I don't feel so grumpy!
Shortly after, one of my co-workers put up this festive Christmas wreath..see how easy it is to spread a little holiday cheer?
So what are you doing at your place of work to get into the holiday mood? Go ahead, in the spirit of Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and Christmas, ALL COMMENTS ARE FREE TODAY!

  1. what a nice little tree! that was so sweet of you to do that, I bet your co-workers like it. My boss is a total scrooge, but I brought in a few pointsettia plants anyway.

  3. Aw, Rick, you're not really a Christmas grump, are you?

I like the cheap ass Christmas tree with the dog food presents. Then again, I'm a bit odd myself.

  4. I used Bourbon to melt away "the ice from my heart" as James and I finished up the decorations last night!

  5. Rick, when do you find time to work? (I think that working with you would be a vacation where you work hard but go home refreshed.)

We just celebrated St. Nikolai's Day. The night before we had a dinner that I think was worthy of you-- clam sauce (sorry, Dr. Wang) over linguine with a salad made of celery, fresh herbs and lettuce and pomegranate seeds, with burnt creme for desert. The next day. . . either my two year old or my four year old had opened up all the presents! St. Nikolai speaks Russian at our house and the kids had wondered how'd they find their presents-- it took an interesting turn!

We fast for Advent (except for St. Nik's Day-- it's the Crumpet tradition) and I am looking forward to indulging in food that isn't great for you but tastes pretty good!

  7. Awesome! Free comments!

It's sort of like that saying (I may quote it wrong), "smile and the world smiles with you, frown and you frown alone". Make your own merry.

    Happy Holidays!

  9. It seems as though there is a competition going on between our department and the department across the hall. The ladies in our office took the liberty of claiming my large window to the reception area as the place for employees' (fairly large) stockings. So I'm doing a lot of poking my head around the stockings to see who's out there. :-)

  11. Well...we just picked Secret Santa's...that is sort of putting us in the spirit.

But I don't need any at work. I just dragged a tree a mile to my apartment! :)
