Things in the Attic...

Regardless of what climate you live in, one of the best things to do in the middle of the chilly winter is to explore things stashed away in the attic. Everyone has an attic. Even if you don't have an attic, you have the kind of attic I'm talking about. Your attic may be a basement, a storage area under a staircase, or a deep closet. You get the picture. You can find all sorts of interesting treasures hidden away in the far depths of the attic. Sometimes there are things I find that I forgot I still had. Other things I have no recollection of having bought. And every once in awhile you come across the "genie in a bottle". The genie in a bottle is something you are surprised and excited to find. I thought I'd share a few things hidden in the attic.

above: the antique rocking chair and the old old TV...
above: lots of old dusty cardboard cartons...and a few old vinyl long play records.
above: old mantle clocks and a really old film projector

and above: my "genie in a bottle", an old photo of Fannie Farmer, the famous cook and candy maker from way back. This photo holds some special meaning to me and brings back all kinds of memories. What kind of stuff is tucked away in your attic? Anything interesting? Any hidden gems worth sharing? Go ahead leave a comment...

  1. Your photo of the bentwood rocker brought back a lot of memories. I'm not talking of the antique ones, but in my younger days, lots of people had them with the matching coat racks. I remember it from my first apartment in the 80's.

I"m squirreling away my parent's old stuff. The Polaroid camera, old pyrex mixing bowls, ice cream scoop, etc...All the stuff from my childhood.

  2. actually, i miss having a real attic. our old house, small as it was had a full walk up attic and it was wonderful. now i just have a crawlspace and bunches of closets. yes, i have a semblance of an attic but you can't stand up in it and it mainly has the suitcases and hunting gear for my husband and two kids.

i am fortunate enough though to have all the photo albums from both sets of my grandparents. i cherish them.

  5. Is this anything like things in the closet? And, also, is Barbara Eden inside of that thing?

  6. Someplace in my closet is a shoe box with old pictures in it. I looked like such a dork in high school though, I have no interest in digging those old photos out. There's a reason those pics are at the back of the closet. They belong in the shoebox.

  7. I once found a $50 bill tucked away in an old coat I stored...but that's not worth sharing. ;)

Just kidding. It is worth sharing. $50 can buy a few drinks with friends. :)

  8. I can recall going through something like this not too long ago when I came across a locked chest that I used during my early junior high/high school years. Brings back lots of memories. And your mention of "vinyl long play records" reminds me of the Disneyland long playing records like Johnny Appleseed, Black Beauty, Peter and the Wolf, etc. Thanks for bringing back memories.

  9. Ahem.

    Rick, darling.

Bentwood rockers are NOT antiques. I had one in my first apartment back in 1984. Okay, to some that might seem like ancient history, but it was only 24 years ago!
