The Show Dogs of The Year Awards
Last night I attended the 53rd Annual Show Dogs of the Year Awards, held at the Grand Hyatt hotel on Park Avenue at Grand Central. The event celebrates the accomplishments of the show dog community, and is the "Academy Awards" for the top show dog handlers, owners and trainers. It coincides with the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, which is why I am in New York for the next few days. Many of the handlers I met will be among the winners for the various dog groups competing at the Westminster event.

above: A fine example of a top dog, Vikki, a toy Poodle who has won 67 Best in Show competitions. Her handler Kaz Hosaka was recognized as the top handler last night.
above: Me with friend Candy, an executive with Purina Pro Plan brand dog food, who is a major underwriter of the awards dinner. Candy is proud of telling me that 79 of the top 100 show dogs feed her brand of Pro Plan dog food, which is quite amazing. above right: An ice sculpture of the "Winkie" Award Statuette greeted attendees at the cocktail reception before dinner.

My Favorite Course: The Desserts

The After Party: The Bubble Lounge
above: we went to a place called The Bubble Lounge which was a hip place with comfy sofas and a fantastic champagne and wine list.

That looks like such fun, partying with such interesting folks! Dogs rule!!!
ReplyDeleteI turned green as I read your latest post... You are doing two things that I've been wanting to do for the longest time: stay at the Waldorf Astoria, and attend a top dog show, not to mention eat sushi at an extra-fine restaurant!! That's what I call living... So many things to do, so little time. Thanks for a delicious post ;o)
ReplyDeleteEverybody in the pictures looks beautiful and happy...
Greetings!
Um...who's the fellow in the bottom two photos?
ReplyDelete*sigh* Ah, Rick! I am so jealous! What a fun life you have! ;) Very cool post!
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos. It's fun to hear about the parties.
ReplyDeleteI'm just loving this roadshow. Thank you Rick! Think of me while you're there, OK?
ReplyDeleteMy cats eat Pro Plan!
ReplyDeleteIf I had a dog like that poodle, I would never ever inflict him with a cut like that. The poor dog looks really dumb.
I like the Elvis pompadour style they gave the poodle. I'm waiting to see a poodle cut mirroring the Amy Winehouse beehive in the future.
ReplyDeleteIs Vikki real? That looks like a float for the Macy's parade-- like it should be floating in the air and be held on Earth with lines. . .
ReplyDeleteAlas, everything else looks amazingly, wonderfully real!
Keeping up with the Joneses over here it seems: The Savoy London recently closed its doors for a £100m renovation and is not to reopen until some time in 2009.
ReplyDeleteThe original art deco items were auctioned off at Bonhams in December. I spent ages browsing that catalogue...
