For this week's Sunday Art Review, I take you back to the Palm Springs Art Museum for a deeper look into various works on exhibit. As a member of the Art Museum, I enjoy spending time in the galleries, allowing my mind to absorb and process what my eyes see. The musuem has plenty of comfortable benches perfectly positioned for spending time to think. One of these days I'll remember to take better notes, so you'll have to forgive my ignorance and allow me some creative license as I name some these works for my blog.
"The Bowl and Vase"
"The Big Dots"
"Abstract Expressionist" on Canvas, by Sam Francis
"Suspension" blown glass and steel by Albert Paley
"Olympic Torso" in bronze, by Robert Graham
Which one(s) do you like best? All comments are appreciated!
-Rick Rockhill
"The Bowl and Vase" is my favorite for the colors. This looks like a nice museum. The Chamber of Commerce should be giving you a stipend. You do a wonderful job of promoting your community.
ReplyDeleteWell the Olympic Torso, Obviously. Can I get two of those? :)
ReplyDeleteI find the Olympic torso quite interesting - very fit, but modern because it is heavy and muscular, not lithe and muscular as the Classical Greek athletes were.
ReplyDeleteBut my fave is the bowl - it is one of my favourite colours, but I like the apparent roughness of the bowl and its juxtaposition to the smoothness of the rim. I want to touch them.
I like the Bowl And Vase because it combines beauty with practicality.
ReplyDeleteUmmmm, and the Olympic Torso statue who mercifully didn't have to suffer a double be-heading. :)
I like the Olympic Torso best; I think the human body is a miracle... Cheers!
ReplyDeletethe suspension is my favourite, I like the colour and the design.
ReplyDeletesuspension! (and i wish you could help me shop for my dress for the wedding rick!!!)

i'm into glass so i'd pick suspension... although the torso is HOT!!!
ReplyDeleteI'd pick the first photo as the most interesting. Who but you would wear a sports jacket to an art museum (unless they are serving champagne)?
ReplyDeleteI'd likely spend some time looking at The Big Dots. There is something about balance that attracts me.
Glass is good. Very good. But remember, that I've only been in one art museum in my entire life. Yes, just one. The Van Gogh in Amsterdam.
ReplyDeleteYou complement the "Big Dots" well, but I think you would have outshined the Olympic Torso. Good thing you weren't in the photo. ;-)
ReplyDeleteIn regards to which piece I like the best, I'd have to go with the subject on the seat in the first photo. So true to life. All kidding aside, I love the colorful abstract art. Thanks for sharing!
The Bowl and Vase.
ReplyDeleteThe colors are exquisite!
This is a trick question. . .
ReplyDeleteThat one you call Big Dots looks like an Alexander Calder, or someone who was imitating him....The Museum has come a long long way since the late '60's and early '70's....!
ReplyDeleteHave to go with Olympic Torso. I just got a great print by Robert Graham in Los Angeles. Really like his work.
