The 21st Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival kicked off this past week. I'm a huge film buff, and especially enjoy independent films that rely on film festivals to be seen and gain awareness. The black tie Awards Gala is a major event that attracts tons of media and paparazzi, along with thousands of fans all looking to catch a glimpse of their favorite star. The film festival itself has grown to one of the largest in the world, with hundreds of films from around the world being screened on 15 screens in Palm Springs over the span of the festival. I always enjoy attending the festival and the Awards Gala. I've been quite busy this past week so I'm posting these photos later than I had planned, but I hope you still enjoy them.

The Awards Ceremony
Mary Hart, of Entertainment Tonight was the the master of ceremonies once again. She lives here in Palm Springs and brings a touch of glamor to the night. My photo of her didn't come out too well so I'm not posting it. I was fortunate to be the guest of a friend whose table was right up front, so I was able to get mostly pretty good photos as each person was on stage.

Rick, that was actually painful to watch. How sad. I didn't like her much before and now I like her less.
ReplyDeleteHelen Mirren, however, is up on a pedestal, IMO, with Judi Dench and Meryl. They are my favorites!
I just noticed the new profile pic on the left-hand bar... contacts? Lasik?
ReplyDeleteOut of all those folks, I have to say that Helen Mirren is my fave...
I'll be that was a fun event to attend.
:-D)
I am so embarassed for her. She seemed more high then drunk. Yikes..makes my face turn red. Shameful.
ReplyDeleteBut Helen M. and Clint Eastwood awesome!
Michelle P--Always will be always is hot hot hot (Grease 2!! YEA!)
I'm sure the food was just over the top
Hi Rick, I was there at the event and it was a blast. M. Carey is a sad soul. I never cared particularly for her and lost what little respect I had for her talent. A very sad role model for young folks. Having said that, I think Helen Mirren and Morgan Freeman rock. Both right up there with Meryl Streep. Love your blog.
ReplyDeleteSome of my favorite actors! What a treat for you! PS I thought Mariah was cute, not like she was driving!
ReplyDeleteYou cracked me up with your quip about Mariah being sober before the event, but then I got to your comment about Morgan Freeman's performance in Invictus, and I got a bit choked up. I LOVED that film, and he was PHENOMENAL.
ReplyDeleteI mean to say that I'm so glad you're an insider and share a world with us that we wouldn't know otherwise!
ReplyDeleteJeff Bridges' body of work is EXTRAORDIANARY! He truly deserves a "Life Achievement" Award....And his performance in CRAZY HEART is Sublime! He should win Everything this year, in my humble opinion. It is his time.
ReplyDeleteMarion Cottilard is The French Actress...She is an incredibly talented woman....Helen Mirren is WONDERFUL in "The Last Station"....just perfection!
Bravo to Sonny Bono for getting The Palm Springs Film Festival off the ground all those years ago.
