The Saturday Seven: Best Black and White Films

Its 85 degrees and sunny in Palm Springs today...I'm relaxing poolside, working on this blog and can't help paraphrasing a line from Auntie Mame: "Life in Palm Springs is a banquet...and most poor suckers elsewhere are freezing to death". But I digress...

It's time for "The Saturday Seven", my random list of whatever I want. Oh, the power...how it frightens me at times. This week's list is about my favorite black and white films. (what did you expect from me, best cheap beers or Britney Spears songs?) Anyway, here goes:

The Saturday Seven: Best Black and White films:
1. Mildred Pierce (1945)
2. Some Like it Hot (1952)
3. Casablanca (1942)
4. Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962)
5. Grand Hotel (1932)
6. Twelve Angry Men (1957)
7. The Apartment (1960)

Your thoughts?

  1. Yay, "Some Like it Hot"! Seeing Jack Lemmon handle that walk to the train in his dressy high heels is priceless. He'll always be a lady to me.

    Yes, I'd love to exchange links with you—Tony Danza, "Hairspray", and overcooked bacon... what's not to love about your blog? Wait, what? That bacon is $250 steak? Euuwww. I mean, nice.

    Thanks very much for your kind words about Small and Big. Now that you stopped by, the readership has doubled. Hee hee!

  2. Wait, maybe that isn't Tony Danza. On closer inspection it's former "Dallas" star Linda Gray.

  3. "Baby Jane" - a classic!!! I still remember the chill I felt when she lifted the lid off the serving dish and there lay the rat with just a dab of mayo...

    Thanks for visiting my humble blog. My daughter lost her Siberian Huskey, Otis, a year and a half ago and hunted around for the perfect dog. She wound up with two Shiba Inus, Norma Jean and Bandit. She had them shipped from the breeder in Florida, which was a risky proposition, to my way of thinking, but they are priceless! I wasn't familiar with the breed but they're absolutely wonderful!
    I was raised with German Shepherds and they're my first love. I had a Lhasa Apso for 17 yrs., and we got the Shih Tzu because of the nicer disposition. We also have a sweet mini-schnauzer. I love most critters but dogs are my definite favorite.
    Thanks again for your visit...I'll be back.
    ~~~Blessings~~~
  4. Ah, the Whatever Happened to Baby Jane reference is near and dear to my heart.....Can't you hear the strains of "I'm sending a letter to Daddy........" counterbalanced by Bette's dry deliver of "Blanche....We have rats....in the cellar" - What a film!
  5. Sunset Boulevard is my absolute favorite. The beginning scene with the dead monkey's hand...priceless.
  6. Yeah, "Baby Jane" is a great thriller. Right up there with "Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte."
    How about "Night of the Living Dead?" Shot on a shoestring budget even?
