Relaxing at the Beach in La Jolla

Last Thursday I met some friends at the La Jolla Shores Hotel for an after work drink. This hotel is literally on the beach, with a fantastic view of the La Jolla beach cliffs that curve around the coast (see photo below). The Pacific Ocean looked so inviting at this time of day, the waves lapped up on the shore, as if teasing and tantilizing the sand. The late afternoon sun was warm, and produced a happy orange hue on the water and sand. It was nothing short of spectacular. My two friends were already seated on the restaurant patio when I arrived (late). I had to first run home, walk the dog and change into shorts and sandals. When I arrived, we ordered some champagne, and a variety of appetizer type things, which hit the spot. Jumbo shrimp cocktail, Mini Fish Tacos, a cheese and fruit plate, Chicken Quesidillas, and a basket of fresh baked bread. It was a perfect way to unwind after work and catch up with friends. If only I could do this everyday...but oh that's right, that pesky job of mine gets in the way of doing things like this more often.

Above: My camera did not do this justice at all, but the beach was so inviting and calming.

  9. Wow ... interesting set of blogs you have here with lots of interesting and engaging content and nice pictures. Your pictures of La Jolla beach are beautiful. (But if you're Palm Springs Savant, what are you doing in La Jolla?)

Growing up on the Jersey shore but living in D.C., I miss the ocean. Indeed, I've decided to move back to a coastal location. I've had enuf of this place. But the Pacific coast seems so different from the Atlantic. It's hard to explain. Only the coast of Maine reminds me of the Pacific coast in terms of how rugged, chilly, misty, and often lonely it feels. It's a very different feel on the East Coast.

P.S. But who is Dr. Sydney Wang??

  11. Arcturus- I am the Palm Springs Savant, but I also have a beach house in San Diego, so I spend a fair amount of time in both places. I also travel quite a bit and enjoy writing about my journies.

Dr Sidney Wang is the resident oracle of this blog. He is a psychic betta fish who tells fortunes and provides words of wisdomand advice 24/7. he also answers letters each week on my "Wisdom Wednesday" column.
    Thanks for asking!

  12. I must disagree...the pics are amazing. But I know what you mean about them not looking the same as the very moment that you're trying to convey. LaJolla is probably one of the prettiest places around.

  13. Beautiful photos Rick! You are so lucky to live in Palm Springs. Looking out onto the beach watching the waves lapping against the shore sounds like the perfect way to relax after a long day. The food looks sooo good too!
