Some of you are already familiar with Koshimi, my Shiba Inu who is quite possibly the best dog in the Universe. At age 15, he is quite an old man, but still manages to get along rather well. Whenever I get home from work, both Shimi and Owen (kitty cat) are waiting by the door, happy to see me. They are a definite source of joy and happiness in my life. I spoil them both with good food, healthy treats and LOTS of love. Anyway, this is just a casual post on Shimi. I thought I'd share a few photos of our walk after work Monday night. He always gets to excited when it's time to go for walkies...

That is a sweet face! And I'm sure he gets the very best of everything, too!
ReplyDeleteKoshimi is beautiful. I've never heard of that breed of dog. What is the origin of his name?
ReplyDeleteawwwwwwwwwwww he's wonderful!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe had to put our old bassett down this last spring. he was 12, which is very very old for a bassett. I have a pointer/greyhound mix that is 12, and another bassett that is 9.
I also have two birds, a gerbil, and a famous cat. He has had his picture in a magazine for having 27 toes. hehehehe
Awww...he's so cute! Nice pics. :)

ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for you nice words! I think Shimi is pretty cool too.
ReplyDeleteJayne- you asked about the origin of the name of Shiba Inus. here is what Wikipedia says:
Inu is the Japanese word for dog, but the "Shiba" prefix's origin are less clear. The word shiba usually refers to a type of red shrub. This leads some to believe that the Shiba was named with this in mind, either because the dogs were used to hunt in wild shrubs, or because the most common colour of the Shiba Inu is a red colour similar to that of the shrubs. However, in old Japanese, the word shiba also had the meaning of "small", thus this might be a reference to the dog's small size. Therefore, the Shiba Inu is sometimes translated as "Little Brushwood Dog".
My aunt has a Shiba Inu, but she is the lighter tan color. Such great dogs!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet looking old boy!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dog. Obviously the food you feed him must be good if he is 15.
ReplyDeleteI have a new dog.(he is 6 but new to me.) I used the kind of harness you have on Shimi but my beagle got loose and ran after another dog. So now, we don't go for walks in the park. He gets to run around the big back yard.
Koshimi looks like a great dog and has such a cute face. I'm sure you love him and Owen very much. Pets are such a big part of the family. They're almost human.
