Hey, I'm in Dune Magazine!!!

The latest issue of Dune magazine is out on news stands and has a really cool building pictured on the cover. Dune magazine is published here in Southern California and bills itself as covering "desert life & desert style". This edition is the Architecture Annual, with fabulous coverage of what is known as "Organic Architecture". Organic Architecture is a movement based on designs, patterns and materials inherent in nature. The assumption is that nature could never design something wrong or bad. So to create a form of architecture modelled after elements in nature would be a design of beauty. This style follows the naturally occurring landscape, rock formations, and often blends into the surrounding environment. One of the great examples featured in this article is this building on the right, designed by architect Ken Kellogg. (It is a restaurant in Rancho Mirage, near Palm Springs). This structure is a work of art and is built into the boulder, hugging the curves of the landscape. It is a popular attraction for locals and tourists interested in architecture.

Dune magazine always posts it current issue online, and allows you to actually flip through the entire magazine. If you want to see a photo of me in it, go to their website; flip the bottom right corner of each page to the very end. For the next month or so, you will see this page below:

Above: the back page of Dune magazine, the "Girl About Town" page is a sort of society section of events in-and-around Palm Springs. I am thrilled to be in this month's edition (thanks Kimberly). She posted a photo of me with my new best friends, Zac Efron and girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens. I spent some time with Zac when he was in Palm Springs. Zac Efron is of course, a huge star from Hairspray and High School Musical, and a teen heart throb. He is really one of the nicest guys around...and has one heck of a firm handshake too.

above: a blurry close-up section of the full page. The photo of me with Zac and Vanessa is the top right photo. And for all you Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens fans, do not despair, they are still very much a happy couple.

  9. Congrats Rick!! That's so cool!!!

We have a very cool "earth house" here too. My brother rented his house from the guy who owns it. It's really neat the way it is built!

  14. Thanks for sharing Rick! I definitely love architecture and organic is definitely nice because it has employed "green" characteristics (energy conservation) long before "green" was associated with energy conservation.

And what IDEAL placement of your photograph right where the paragraph starts.

  15. Rick, I know a few teens, and I can honestly say it's refreshing to hear an adult gush over Zac and Vanessa for once. Criminy, the way these kids go on, it's Bobby Sherman, David Cassidy and Susan Dey all over again! I guess that really dates me, huh? :-)

If I'd known Zac was in PS I would have made an effort to snag an autograph for my 15 y/o friend, Jessica. If that'd happened, I'd be her best friend in the whole, wide world, for like.. ten minutes!!!
