Sunday Art Review: Hiding Within Art

On Friday night, John and I attended a fundraiser for the Palm Springs Art Museum, so I thought I'd have some fun with the free-standing sculptures and larger pieces of art. Admittedly corny, the theme of today's Sunday Art Review is "Hiding Within Art". I apologize up front that once again, I forgot to document the titles of each work and the artist names, so I made up the names for this post. (I was too busy chatting and sipping cocktails all night to be taking notes). In this photo, "exhibit A", here I am behind a piece made from metal and hand blown glass. I especially like the free form shape and richness of the gold within this sculpture; it is a remarkable work for sure. While the works in this post may be entitled "Hiding Within Art", it's really not too hard to find me in each photo-I have the same silly pose throughout!

There were over 900 attendees in support of the Art Museum that night, not to mention a number of local well known drag queens who perform professionally in a local hotel lounge each week.


It was a fun evening in the art museum, and a great way to introduce the museum to lots of new visitors and guests. Which of the six works of art did you like best? Go ahead, leave a comment, I've waived all comment fees today!

    I'd have to say that the drag queens are my favorite pieces of art although I really enjoyed them all.

    When I worked in PS, I had a superior who was a fun guy sorta fella during the daytime. And when he came in as a customer bar time, he was ripped with his beer belly protruding immensely yet dressed to the hilt with in his panty hose and heels after hours. He was also very follically(?) challenged. Needless to say, it was very difficult maintaining a straight face. He was absolutely wayyy too cute especially with his beer belly and pumps.

    I like the glass dress because it reminds me of Lalique. And the more I see Chihuly, the more I like his work.

    I fuond out last week that my stylist used to do a bit of drag. And now he's creative director for the salon. He's the only person who understands my hair and I'll be sad to leave him.

    I liked them all Rick...But I must admit I would LOVE to know who each artist is...Perhaps you can go back and let us know....!
    I can remember when the Palm Speings Art Museum was still very small and that building had not been built yet....! They had a painting of mine at one time and about 15 years later they "de-assesioned" it---In other words--They sold it along with a lot of other works of art...! I was not too happy about that, nor were the other artists. I know it is something Museums do from time to time but it is not such a great thing for the Artists that are getting 'dumped'.

    I think that the metal and blown glass sculpture is amazing; it would be great to know the name of the artist... I love the fact you are within the art, that is so cute :)

    The drag queens are pieces of art on their own; how are they so creative at dressing up as queens? is there a school of some sort? I look at the details on their shoes, the jewelry, the hair, the tons of makeup, and I wish I had their creativity and imagination. It's fun!

    "White Glass Dress" is simply amazing!

    I find "exhibit A" and "Chihuly Madness" a little unsettling because they remind of something out of the Cthulhu mythos (though more birghtly colored). I've probably just read too much Lovecraft.

    fantasy hearing makes me think of a musical instrument you'd find in a dr. seuss book so it makes me smile.

    chihully madness is just really interesting.

    I like the first one and the Chihuly best. The wicker one is like some a guy did here at our art museum, and frankly, I can't call it art!!

    I cried looking at the white glass dress, Rick! I made a parchment christening gown many years ago in honor of a miscarriage. The others exhibits were nice, but I choose exhibit b for the emotional response that it got from me.

    I completely loved the cocoon! My "inner child" could imagine making that into a playhouse..How fun that would be!
