The Saturday Seven: Fun Coffee Commercials

As I was waiting for my coffee to brew this morning I started thinking about some of the fun tv commercials that have been on tv over the years. It is amazing the various angles that have been taken by coffee companies. I used to love Mrs Olson always plugging for Folgers with that crazy accent. This was the inspiration for this week's Saturday Seven: Fun Coffee Commercials. Take a few moments to check these out, some may surprise you...

#1 Great Retro Folgers Coffee. Luckily the wife has all day to worry about making a better cup of coffee

#2 Mrs Olson for Folgers. She sure is smart. I love how she points to the "mountain grown" label.

#3 Cora for Maxwell House. More husbands hurling insults about the wife's coffee

#4 Highpoint Coffee. The little wife calls her husband "rugged" hee hee

#5 Lauren Bacall for Highpoint. Lovehow she says "it's De-Caff-inated" Love how she goes "mmmmmm" after sipping her coffee- in her signature deep voice.

#6 Butter Nut Coffee. Check out the guy hanging upside down in the kitchen. Oh and the husband insults the wife's coffee here too!

#7 Wilkin's coffee. You'd never get away with this stuff today. One version has the muppet in the electric chair!
bonus commercial:

Bonus video: Sanka: featuring Lucy and Desi.

Do you have any memorable coffee commercials? What was it about husbands insulting their wives coffee anyway? Go ahead, leave a comment, and grab yourself a nice cup of cawfee- I only serve mountain grown cawfee you know.

  3. These are such fun...! I never heard of Wilkens Coffee...Do you think it was a "fake" one, so they could do those silly commercials?
Mrs. Olsen had a GREAT Career with that gig....She was actually a WONDERFUL Actress....!

There used to be a Coffee Commercial about a guy named Juan something who's coffee beans were in Brazil or somewhere....I likef those commercials....I almost felt like I could smell the coffee...Of course, I cannot tell you what the coffee was now...LOL!
    This was fun, Rick.

  4. Naomi, it was Juan Valdez, and the coffee was from up in the Andes Mts.

I am addicted to coffee - but only decaf nowadays. I like Verona from Starbucks, Columbian from Millstone and Seattle's Best. If I can't find those, I get Dunkin Donuts Decaf.

  6. Great, creative topic, Rick. My favorite coffee commercials were the 90s ads for Taster's Choice with the romantic soap-opera theme. Anthony Head (before Buffy the Vampire Slayer) was great in them. Funny how we Americans have to commandeer so many British ideas.

  8. That outdoor guy didn't look that rugged.

So when are you and John coming over for coffee? We serve only Butterworth Maxwell House Sanka Decaf Highpoint blend, to keep the husbands from abusing us with verbal assault.

  13. I couldn't get them to play either. However, I do remember some of those commercials. And I agree with an earlier commenter about the Taster's Choice commercials. Those were my favorites! :)

  14. Those naive couples and the husbands' insults made me laugh!

I remember in the UK in the 80s and 90s there were these episodic commercials for Nescafe Gold Blend with Anthony Head and Sharon Maughan - started with her running out of coffee and ringing his doorbell to ask for more, and by the final installment I think they fell in love - coffee mugs in hand of course.

  15. It's funny...I just thought of Jaun's last name---VALDEZ...And then came to comment and saw KENJU'S Comment...lol...I did not remember it came from The Andies.....
I do not drink any coffee at all, anymore. Except, some Decaf when I have my Ladies Who Lunch afternoons....Otherwise...NADA!
And I was a very heavy Coffee Drinker when I was young....then moved to Decaf....and then, moved to Bone! LOL!

  17. Oh yes, and I loved hearing Jim Henson's voice. The little guy definitely sounds like a precursor to Kermit, and the big guy could be anyone on the Muppet Show.

    I miss the Muppet Show....

  18. None of these are available except for Lucy & Desi-- it was cute!

What was up with men insulting their wives' coffee? They'd need no Hai Karate after pulling that on me!
