This past weekend I went to a kick-off party for the Palm Springs Equality Awards. The Equality Awards Gala, held annually in October- will benefit the non-profit EQCA (Equality California) organization. This event was to shore up support of key individuals to commit to buy a table at the October Awards Gala. The party was held at a beautiful private home in the Mesa neighborhood in Palm Springs. The contemporary two level house was situated in the foothills with a fantastic view of the Palm Springs. (Photo above: On the balcony with Palm Springs artist Kimberly Nichols, whose work I featured on this past Sunday Art Review). Here are two other great views from the balcony:
above: just off to the right is the home of Barry Manilow
above: just in the distance is the home of Suzanne Somers.
above & below: guests filled the house and listened to presentations about the EQCA mission.
Then a sweet finale...
above: Lovely parting gifts: a black velvet bag filled with gold foil-wrapped chocolate coins. I was happy to attend and support this worthy organization, and it was a perfect way to spend a lovely Saturday afternoon.

Thank you for attending.
ReplyDeleteI saw a Suzanne Somers book of poetry locked up in a case at Half Price Books. I started laughing about it and the guy said he laughed too.....until he looked up the value of it and saw that it's a rare book that had limited publishing in the 70's.
ReplyDeleteIt could have been mine if only I had had 350 dollars. :(
Equality=chocolates for everyone.
ReplyDeleteI like that message!
P.S.I know all the words to Copacabana.

ReplyDeleteAgain, sounds like a really successful event. Palm Springs always shines in your posts.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering when you're going to have a contest so one of your blog readers (me) can attend one of these parties with you???
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon!
ReplyDeleteI would loooooooove to spend a day in the life of the Palm Springs Savant! ;)
What is it about Palm Springs that attracts the stars?
ReplyDeleteThe man in the bowler hat reminds me of the Magritte figure. However, his silhouette on the foil reminds me of Steed from the Avengers.
Good for you for supporting such a good cause!
ReplyDeleteNice photo with your artist friend.
ReplyDeleteI noticed Kimberly Nichols art in the post below. The pieces you've shared with us are lovely. I love the way she uses color to communicate a distinct mood.
was that the home that burned of suzanne sommers?
ReplyDeletebarry manilow was in palm beach in a house in the early 90's. there were wild rumors about him channeling ghosts and stuff. don't know if it is true, you know palm beach! ha ha

Bee- No, this is Suzanne's current home. It was her house in Santa Monica that burned down. So she now lives full time in Palm Springs.
ReplyDeleteBarry Manilow is a great guy- he performs his show in Vegas nightly and flies back to Palm Springs every night to sleep in his own house here!
Wow...I think I'm going to live vicariously through you from now on. Thanks for giving us glimpses into your world.
