Dinner at Copley's on Palm Canyon

Saturday night we went to dinner at the renowned Palm Springs restaurant, Copley's on Palm Canyon. The restaurant is the former home of Cary Grant, who lived in Palm Springs and was known for lavish parties. We arrived a few minutes early, so we enjoyed a glass of wine by the fire pit. We were dining with family this evening, and Greg, the co-owner of Copley's had selected the perfect table on the outdoor patio for our group of five. Situated under a massive ficus tree, and adjacent to a lion's head fountain, it was the ideal setting for a casually elegant dinner outside. Chef Andrew Copley creates the most dazzling menus to tantalize the pallet; it's difficult to decide which one entree to order.
Above: as a starter, I had the "Untraditional Wedge Salad" with Organic baby lettuce, grape tomatoes, olives, marinated mushrooms, cucumber, blue cheese crumbles and a creamy garlic-herb dressing.
above left: Kobe Beef topped with Lobster Claw, and above right: Ahi Tina topped with Tiger Shrimp on Wasabi mashed potatoes. Both were magnificent.

above: An amazing dessert: Chocolate-macadamia nut tart with homemade hazelnut chocolate ice cream.

My Birthday

I'm such a lucky guy. I had a great birthday yesterday. I have beautiful nieces who are thoughtful and cute as can be. They sang the "Happy Birthday" song to me on the phone in the morning, which was a great way to start the day, and put a smile on my face. But imagine my surprise on Saturday when a basket of fresh baked cookies with a balloon-o-gram were delivered to my home, from my nieces Isabella and Elizabeth.

Above: the cookies are in the red cellophane covered basket below the festive balloons. I immediately transferred the cookies into a nice platter so I could admire them and drool...It turned out to be a great birthday for me.

My Birthday Dinner @ Copleys on Palm Canyon
John and I went to dinner Saturday night at one of my favorite restaurants in Palm Springs: Copley's on Palm Canyon. I've written about their wonderful food before but I can't help share how terrific their food is. We tried a few new dishes that I thought were worth sharing...
Above left: Hawaiian Ahi Tacos:Tuna Tartar, Avocado, Green Onion Tossed in Ginger Soy Dressing, presented In A Sesame Miso Shell & Topped with Tobiko Caviar & above right: Chilled Leek & Potato soup with Avocado and Scallops
Above left: Lemon infused salmon on a bed of wilted spinach with fingerling potatoes & above right: Opakapaka (Hawaiian pink snapper) with Ginger crust served on a bed of garlic mashed potatoes and steamed wax beans.

It was another fabulous dinner at Copley's, I just love the food, service and atmosphere. As the evening drew to a close I settled down back home with the dog and cat and enjoyed a glass of wine before bed. A great way to welcome in another year of life on this planet.

Copley's on Palm Canyon

Once of my favorite restaurants in Palm Springs is Copleys on Palm Canyon. Situated in the former Cary Grant estate, Copley's features "contemporary American cuisine" with an unusual twist. They make many of their dishes using fresh herbs grown in the garden on premises. With appetizers such as Hawaiian Ahi Tacos, Roasted Butternut Squash Soup and Roasted Pumpkin Ravioli, it is easy to be lulled into a state of bliss. Some of my favorite entrees include Prosciutto Wrapped Muscovy Duck Breast, Lobster Pot Pie, Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahimahi and Tandoori Breast of Chicken. They have a marvelous wine list, fantastic desserts and terrific service. Juliana and Greg (co-owners) are marvellous hosts. Together with Chef Andrew Copley they make guests feel welcome and like Ohana (that's Hawaiian for "family"). Next time you are in Palm Springs, be sure to stop by Copley's and enjoy one of the best meals money can buy.
