Frivolous Friday: Dinner in the Sky!

It's Frivolous Friday, so it seemed like a good day to blog about "Dinner in the Sky". It's an unusual place you can have dinner (or any meal) at a table suspended 150 feet in the air by a massive crane. Dinner in the Sky can accommodate 22 people around the table, with three staff, the chef, a waiter, and an entertainer.

Check out these interesting stats:

  • Total weight of the table: 11,000 pounds
  • Weight of the crane: 160 tons
  • Measurement of table: 30' x 16'
  • Rotation angle of the seats: 180°
  • Number of dinner guests seated (four-point seat belts): 22

Here's the kitchen

and here's what it looks like from below, looking up:

And you can see the piano player off in the distance, suspended also...

Dinner at night...hopefully no one needs the restroom...

...hold on to your napkin!

...and here's one last amazing view...

Anyone hungry for dinner in the sky??? Happy Friday all!

Frivolous Friday: Similar But Different...

Today's topic for Frivolous Friday, is "Similar But Different". I tend to be a person who notices (and relishes) the subtleties in life; often times it's the little details that can make all the difference. Did you know that your two thumbs aren't the same? Take a close look at them sometime, they are not both just thumbs- in fact they are unique in some subtle way. This is just about taking a moment to notice more things in life. The following photos are a collection of things from around the house that at first glance may look the same, but in fact are quite different. So this post is intended train your eye to starting looking for things that are similar, but different.

above: Similar, but different: Two China Plates

above: Similar, but different: Two Bowls from Mexico

above: Similar, but different: Two Palm Tree Plates

above: Similar, but different: Two book ends
above: Similar, but different: Two Chinese figures
above: Similar but different: Two French Eggs with painted Irises
So this weekend go ahead and try to find things around your world that are similar but different. You may end up seeing a lot more than you ever realized.

Can You Guess?

I thought I'd do something frivolous today and let you test your knowledge of music. Listed below are groupings of songs all sung by the same artist. Most of the songs were from this person's solo career, but a few have been performed while part of a group. Your mission is to simply see if you can guess who the artist is and leave a comment. If you do guess the artist (and I'm sure you will) let me know which is your favorite song by that person (even if it's not a song listed here) and how many groups you had to look through before you figured it out. The list starts with more obscure songs which only a die hard fan would recognize, and it gets progressively easier as you scroll down. So don't look down to fast! Go slowly through each group and see if you can guess who it is! I hope this entertains you even if only for a fleeting moment. Happy Friday ;-)

group a:
  • Outside the Rain
  • I Will Run to You
  • No Spoken Word
  • Long Way to Go
  • Destiny

group b:

  • Too Far from Texas
  • Sometimes it's a Bitch
  • After the Glitter Fades

group c:

  • Beauty and the Beast
  • I Sing for the Things
  • Two Kinds of Love
  • Desert Angel
  • Blue Denim

group d:

  • Twisted
  • Candlebright
  • Silver Springs
  • Whenever I Call You Friend
group e:
  • Enchanted
  • Every Day
  • How Still My Love
  • Trouble in Shangri-La
  • Nothing Ever Changes
  • Planets of the Universe
group f:
  • Bella Donna
  • Rooms on Fire
  • Wild Heart
  • I Can't Wait
group g:
  • Talk to Me
  • Sara
  • Dreams
  • Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
  • Rhiannon
  • Stand Back
  • Leather and Lace
  • Edge of Seventeen
OK, now leave a comment with: 1) who the artist is, 2) what your favorite song is and 3) how many groups of songs did it take for you to guess the artist. Happy Friday!
-Rick Rockhill ps: the answer is Stevie Nicks, solo artist and member of Fleetwood Mac
