Rick's Roadshow: California Wine Country

This past weekend we drove up to Northern California to visit "wine country", specifically Sonoma Valley, Anderson Valley and Napa Valley. We're no strangers to the area, we typically get up here every few months or so. This weekend was different. We decided to take the furry beasts with us. Sheldon and Koshimi made the big nine hour drive north and seemed to enjoy the fun and excitement of a road trip. We stopped at Ledson Winery to take this photo among their vineyards. They enjoyed running around and inspecting the grapes. For those of you who have been watching Sheldon grow, notice how much bigger is already is than Koshimi! He is only 17 weeks old and is growing quickly. Anyway, I digress. So here are a few photos- I plan to cover the whole trip this week for you. The following photos are from an area further north in Anderson Valley, in St. Helena. It is the Goldeneye Winery, which is the sister winery of the popular Duckhorn Vineyard.

above: After the wine tasting at Goldeneye, I meandered the grounds, which offer a stunning view of the vineyards.

above: there were plenty of picnic benches and comfy chairs to sit back and enjoy the view.

above: I thought this was such a cute photo, I half expected Hansel and Gretel to be inside.

above: I walked deep into the vineyard to inspect the crop of grapes. These were mainly Pinot varietals.

above: the view back toward the patio of Goldeneye, where they held outdoor wine tastings. It was a beautiful day to be outside. More to come tomorrow, please stop back again!

Looks like a perfectly good excuse to spend about two weeks sitting right there with good wine, friends, and yummy food.
