A Night at The Ivy Hotel in San Diego

Recently I was entertaining one of my famous actor/producer friends and went to the Ivy Hotel in downtown San Diego. It's a swank hotel that attracts a young, hip and trendy crowd. They have a magnificent rooftop lounge that turns into hot spot after dark. The evening started out with martinis on the rooftop bar at sunset, with stunning views of the city and the San Diego bay area. Shortly afterward, we went to dinner at "Quarter Kitchen", the hotel restaurant just off the lobby.

A bite to eat...
above: Tuna Tartare and a tomato salad started off the dinner. I was so busy chatting I forgot to take any more photos of the food. But it was very delicious, and the service was excellent.
Then the party began...
above: when we returned to the roof top bar after dinner, it was packed. They had girls dancing on top of the bar, with decent music I actually recognized! I definitely brought the average age up a bit, but it was still cool.
above: To escape from the masses, we went to a "private-roped off area" for bottle-bar service. You basically buy a whole bottle and they bring your own private set of mixers, ice and snacky-things. It sure beats waiting in line at the bar for refills.

above: The "private" roped-off area had was guarded by security thugs. It was really nice not to be bothered by anyone who may have wanted to greet my famous actor friend. There were huge over-sized sofas and cozy gas fires that glowed purple and blue. We ended up inviting a few people we liked into our seating area, which kept the conversation interesting all night. We had a great time in San Diego, it was a real blast.

Ooooooh la la! I am so jealous! Nothing beats good food, good wine, good friends, good music and good times!

Rick, I am seriously jealous of your cool life! You could hold a contest...something along the lines of "Be Rick Rockhill for the Day"! LOL! ;)

I've got a contest on my blog right now, but it's not nearly as cool as the Rick Rockhill for the day contest would be!!!

The outdoors lounge at sunset, good company, and on top of all that, good martinis, it seems like "heaven" to me. Besides, it's super romantic... There is only one thing I would not be too crazy about, how do you sit comfortably on those couches that resemble beds more than actual couches? Unless you are actually not sitting ;o)

you know why I love to read your blog?? You give me glimpses of things I would never ever see....We don't have stuff like that here in Oklahoma...duh!!...and it gives me a rest, so to speak, from the reality of my life. I love my life. I couldn't ask for a better husband or family....but being a caregiver to my parents is completely stressful. But yours is so over the top that I can escape from time to time and have my own mini-mental vacation!
From my humble heart..thank you!
I think I'm going to have to keep you too....k?
