This past weekend I participated in a fundraiser for the Guide Dogs of the Desert that I helped organize. The mission of the Guide Dogs of the Desert is "to improve the lives of the blind by creating opportunities for life-changing independence, and by conducting community outreach and education programs." They are a great organization whose work embodies the human-animal bond with a true purpose and contribution to society. The fundraiser was held at a private home nestled in the mountain side of Palm Springs. The costs of the event was completely underwritten, so 100% of the proceeds went to the Guide Dogs. Actor and animal advocate Dick Van Patten is a supporter of the Guide Dogs of the Desert. His company Natural Balance pet food supplies the Guide Dog trainers with food and also donates money directly to the group. In this photo above, you can see Jimmy Van Patten and actress Linda Blair (both kneeling lower left). I'm standing in the middle-the only idiot with sunglasses on!

Looked like a fun event. I wouldn't mind a dip in that pool!
:-D)
i've known two different people who relied on guide dogs and it made such an important difference in their lives.
ahh, look at those little cute doggies....i'd like to give 'em all a bit pat and rub....but i know you're not supposed to do that with guide dogs. now, could my little maltese-poodle, Mason, be a guide doggy? He's such a lover and helper. He'll lick you to death!
Guide dogs and service dogs have impacted so many people's lives, not just the ones who use them but their families as well. What a tremendous gift they are.
BTW, you're not an idiot for wearing your sunglasses. It's the freakin' desert for cryin' out loud! You and I both know how brutal it is without sunglasses.
nice cause.
Sounds like a wonderful event for a worth cause.
Rick, you really do get around out there in Palm Springs...
