Adventures of Sheldon: Breakfast at Ruby's Diner

Our young Sheldon is starting to grow into a fine dog. He went to his vet for a check up and to get a rabies shot. He weighed in at 33 pounds, after just 5 months, so he is right on track and healthy. Since he was such a good boy at the vet's office, I decided to "shooby-doobby on down" to Ruby's Diner in downtown Palm Springs. It's a fun 1940's style retro diner with patio seating, perfect for doggy patrons. Sheldon enjoys going to Ruby's, because he can sit on the patio and people-watch while I slurp down a nice cup of cawfee. He positioned himself right by this sidewalk sign, which was adjacent to our table. This position maximized his visibility to potential patrons who hungrily read the Ruby's menu that was designed to lure people in .

Young Sheldon charmed our waitress with his cute smile and charming manners. She promptly returned with his very own bowl of water (shown here). He was as pleased as can be, and happily lapped up the cold water as I placed my breakfast order. Once I placed my order, Sheldon had just finished drinking his water and decided to thank his waitress. As you may have guessed, he leaned over and "kissed" the waitress' legs. And by kiss, I mean licked. And by licked, I mean slobbered. Since he has not had a regular groom yet, the hair on his chin and mouth is quite shaggy, so when he drinks he has water dripping from his chin for awhile. The waitress jumped from the sensation of cold water on her legs, which caused her to tip her tray, sending someone's cinnamon roll on the ground. She blushed and leaned down to pet Sheldon; he sat smiling, panting and showing his long pink tongue. "E's so cute-uh", she said in her broken English. Sheldon didn't try to gobble up the cinnamon roll that had fallen, but he did stare at it for a few moments.

above: My cup of "Swing Time" Cawfee arrived and I nearly jumped up to do the jitterbug dance I was so happy. Meanwhile Sheldon was busy watching pigeons walk around the plaza, he was fascinated with how their heads bobbed forwards and backwards.

above: Sheldon flirts with a woman who stopped to coo over him. "Awww, are you a labradoodle?" she asked. Sheldon shifted his position and seemed insulted. I quickly responded: "No, he's pure Standard Poodle, he just needs to have his first groom" She smiled and recounted some story about her neighbor's labradoodle who "bla bla bla bla bla......" I stopped listening and found myself staring off into the sky mesmerized by these palm trees in the plaza:

above: Soon Sheldon was bored and ready to go home. He could only stare at the head bobbing pigeons for so long.
A Side Trip to Dick Van Patten's Star
Before heading home, we walked over to Dick Van Patten's star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars for an updated photo op. This photo was just taken...

above: Sheldon at 5 months old. (Sorry for the shade in the photo.) You can see the difference in his size compared to the photo below:

above: Sheldon at 3 months old. He was so tiny here! I intend to bring him back to Dick's star to take more photos as he grows. Sheldon was so happy to pose for both of these photos, he is such a ham. It is so much fun raising him and watching him grow up into a fine dog. Thanks for stopping by today!

I look forward to meeting young Sheldon someday. Thanks for the chuckle this morning. The "The palm trees that mesmerized me" part was pure comedy.

Does sheldon know he's a puppy? I would have stared at the cinnamon roll, too! LOL!

Methinks that Sheldon is exhibiting a bit of your characteristics. Well, except for the slobbering on the waitress's leg thing...*wink*

He's really cute. I think he should have eaten the roll.

HAHA! Is that what you do when I find you, John and Sheldon dining on the Ruby's patio?

You had a better waitress than we did last week - the service couldn't have been worse. Surprising, because I've always liked the place.
