Wisdom Wednesday: Featuring Dr Sidney Wang

ASK DR WANG, "the psychic betta fish"
This week's letter is from Alice in Roswell, New Mexico. Alice writes:

Dear Dr Wang,

My story is much too sad and embarrassing to speak so I am writing to you for advice. My situation started out a year ago with me being at a low point in my love life and feeling sorry for myself. Then one day I met a wonderful man named Chet who swept me off my feet and made me feel happy again. After a few short months we decided to live together, and he convinced me to sell my house so we could buy a larger place together. I was still a little stressed, so I let him handle all of the details and soon we had a new home together. I felt that since he handled the mortgage part I would buy all the new furniture and furnish our home. He even spoke of marriage, which thrilled me. Two months ago I had to go out of town for three days to attend a training class for my job. Chet stayed home and took care of the cats. I called Chet each morning and night to chat. It was so nice to have him in my life. That is, until I came home from the trip. When I arrived at my home, my house key didn't work. I looked in the windows to look for Chet. To my horror the house was completely empty. I went to the back of the house and broke a window to get in. The entire house was cleaned out, literally not a single item left, except my three cats. At least he left them food and water.

I called Chet on his cell phone, but the number was disconnected. I called the police to file a report. Turns out he was a total con-man with a record as long as the Continental Divide. I had no idea that the house we "bought" together was only rented- he took my money from the sale of my house and pocketed it. (I thought it went toward the downpayment of the house we "bought".) While I was away he sold ALL of my belongings and I now have absolutely nothing to my name, not even my high-heeled shoes. He even went to the ATM machine and withdrew most of the (little) cash I had left. All I have now are the clothes on my back, and a car with a loan. My three cats and I are staying at my mother's. What's next for me? What about this S.O.B. Chet? I am so angry with myself and depressed about my situation.

Swindled, Alice, Roswell, NM

Dr Wang responds: Dear Alice,

Wow, I am nearly speechless. I am sorry to hear about your misfortune. This guy Chet is slimier than the scales on my body after swimming in the same smelly water for a month.

I swam over to The Great Bubble Wall to meditate on your future. I see that you have a good job. Focus on your work for awhile to get through the next few months, there are some tough days ahead for you. You will be pleased to know that this Chet character's bad deeds are about to catch up with him. He is somewhere in Louisiana at the moment searching for another victim. Don't worry, he won't live long enough to enjoy what he stole from you. He will be eaten by an alligator after wandering around in a drunken stupor one late night next week. He will be eaten from the feet first, so he will have a particularly slow and painful death.

As far as your own future, it will take you several months to get back on your feet. You must not continue living on your mother's sofa. There is an older woman at your church who is looking for a person to share her house- her name is either Polly, Dolly or Molly. Make contact with her.

Your career at work is about to take off. Within the next six months I see a promotion in your future, which will stead you well financially. As far as your love life, no need to join a convent just yet. You will meet a man who is "vertically challenged", but has a kind heart. Do not dismiss him out of hand, give him a chance and let him take you out to a few dinner dates. It's actually a good thing Chet sold all your high heeled shoes. This new man is very sensitive about his height. When you go out to dinner avoid ordering things like short ribs, little-necks, mini-cheeseburgers, or strawberry shortcake. Otherwise he will treat you well and will be wildly generous.

Keep Swimming Upstream,

-Dr Wang

Poor Alice. Dr. Wang had some great advice for her. I had a boyfriend who was a great con. I wasn't too smart at the time and fell for him. Fortunately I didn't lose too much.
