Dining in San Diego @ "The Tractor Room"

For all you "foodies" out there, this is another restaurant post especially for you.

I decided to spend this weekend at the beach house in San Diego. I met some good friends for dinner at a restaurant in Hillcrest oddly named "The Tractor Room". It has a rustic decor, with red leather bench seats and animal-print pillows. When seated, we were welcomed with complimentary Raspberry-Basil martinis, which were delicious. Black-skillet cornbread arrived at the table fresh from the oven, and hit the spot while we perused the menu. The menu featured a variety of exotic meat items, including Elk Sausage, Wild Boar Spring Roll, Free Range Buffalo Stew, Roasted Duck and White Bean Soup and Venison Meatloaf. I had a tough time deciding what to order. It was a nice evening, I had a great time catching up with friends.
Above left: the menu is on a metal clipboard & above right: the antler light in the center of the room defined the style of the entire room, feeling like a lodge, or a tractor room I suppose!

A Salad to start...

Above: I started with a Hearts of Romaine salad with 1000 Island dressing, chopped hard boiled egg marinated in virgin olive oil and balsamic.

The Entrees..were all served on cast iron skillets placed on wooden boards:
Above left: The fresh Salmon with English Gooseberry Glaze & above right: BBQ Lamb Shank
Above left: NY Strip with onion rings & above right: Filet Mignon Skewers
The Side Dishes

Above left: Green Beans with Toasted Almonds & Smoked Wisconsin Cheddar Macaroni and Cheese.
note: just for the record, this is not a paid post. I just like to write about places I eat!

Everything looks wonderful. I could really go for the salmon today. And maybe the mac-and-cheese, one of my ultimate comfort foods.
