Rick's Roadshow: It's Vegas, Baby! (continued)

Lucky for me, I had some free time to relax and enjoy a bit of Vegas in between work stuff. Amazingly I have only gambled ONE DOLLAR the entire time I have been here, so I've not wasted too much money at all. Well, not unless you count overpriced cocktails, and high cab fares from sitting in traffic. Even though I've been to Vegas countless times, I still enjoy sightseeing and walking the strip. This time of year is hideously hot in Las Vegas; every so often I would duck into retail shops or casino to cool off while on my way somewhere. While passing through the Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace, I came across these kites (see below left) which were hanging above the escalators. The angle I was viewing them made for an interesting photo so I tried to capture the moment. Below right is a view of the Venetian hotel behind a row of buildings on the strip.

I went into the new Planet Hollywood hotel/casino to check out the conversion from what used to be Aladdin. It's totally different, I like it much better. They went with a hip, sleek look, with plenty of retro Vegas stuff. Parts of it are very old Vegas clubby, which really works. Things like this arch below, with strings illuminated glass, it's retro-tacky-chic. This will likely attract a young trendy customer base. Sounds like a good place to check out when they officially finish and re-grand open.

My whirlwind second 5-day roadshow has finally come to an end. I fly home this afternoon and will try to unwind before what will undeniably be a crazy week at work. Thanks for reading along and joining me on Rick's Roadshow!

I enjoyed looking at your photos Rick. Vegas looks like an interesting place to visit, particularly the Venetian hotel. I visited Venice on my trip to Italy.
