Wisdom Wednesdays: Featuring Dr Sidney Wang

"Wisdom Wednesdays" features the sage advice of our resident oracle, Dr Sidney Wang. Believed to be a reincarnated descendant of King Rama II of Siam, Dr Wang responds to e-mail submissions with advice, predictions of the future and conveys ancient proverbs to provide guidance and support. Dr Sidney Wang's 24 Hour Wisdom, Advice and Inspiration service is also available from the left side navigation for this feature.
This week's e-mail comes from a reader named Larry from Plano TX. Larry writes:

Dear Dr Wang,

My wife is driving me crazy. We recently redecorated several rooms in the house and now she wants to replace all of the carpets throughout the house. It’s not a question of the money, but the carpets we have are only a few years old and perfectly fine. How do I win this argument without ending up in divorce court?

Annoyed,
Larry B.

Dr Wang responds: Dear Larry,

Divorce court over a carpet change? Seems a bit extreme. I have consulted The Great Bubble Wall in my tank, as well as the ever-wise Mini-Booda, who lives underwater with me. First of all, Mini Booda urges patience with your wife.

Every so often I like to have the gravel in my tank replaced, even though it just needs a good washing. This is similar to what your wife wants with the carpet change. You’d be surprised by the impact a subtle change at home can have on your overall mindset.

However, I have read the writing on the algae walls of my tank; it indicates that you harbor feelings of resentment toward your wife. This resentment relates back to a time when you gave her a pearl necklace when what she really wanted was diamonds. You need to clear the water…er. I mean the air…and get both the new carpet AND a diamond necklace from Tiffany and Co. Once you do that, your future looks as bright as the light beaming down in my tank.

Keep swimming upstream,
-Dr Wang

Larry may not want to hear this advice, Dr. Wang. But I think I can understand the wife's viewpoint. The rest of the house is looking shabby after the redecoration. If he follows your advice, he may find the climate at home improves considerably.

Damn it! I just knew I wouldn't want to go along with her advice. Gotta run to Tiffany's now.....

Dr. Wang is surely one of the great minds of our times. The advice was sound and well delivered.

She has definite insights into the human psyche.

Hey Palm :)

Dr. Wang has some pretty decent advice there! I like a change of scenery too.
(And diamonds.)
