Sunday Art Review: A Study in Palm Trees

Palm trees are the subject of this week's Sunday Art Review. Palm trees have long been of interest to artists. Rows of palm trees line main streets and dot pristine golf courses throughout the valley. The texture of the trunks and ridges on the fronds provide artists with interesting patterns and light effects, particularly in the glow of the afternoon sun. No two artists interpret palm trees the same. These images are directly from the Palm Springs Art Museum as part of a silent auction underway. Here is this week's installment of the Sunday Art Review: A Study in Palm Trees:

above: "Canyon Palms" artist: Evelyn Iffit

above: "Hot Tropics", artist: Bobette Bird

above: "Oasis", artist: Elaine Matthews

above: "Key West Rocker", artist Gary Rosenblum.
I hope you enjoyed these paintings as much as I have.

Wow, those paintings are gorgeous! Palm trees provide quite the intricate design and challenge to an artist.

Key West Rocker is a perfect display of relaxation, warm weather, and gentle breezes. Without showing much, it is very suggestive; I like this one!
Happy Sunday ;o)

I love them all, specially the expressionistic color domination of the first one!

In India we have a lot of coconut palms, lining our coastal areas & the southern plateau ! :)

I must say that I've been seeing more and more palms of some sort around Portland.

I love palm trees. I saw some really beautiful ones when we were visiting grandparents in Florida. We have them here too, but not as many.

Thanks again for showing us some wonderful art.

I think I like the first picture "Canyon Palms" the best. It is so surreal and striking.

I like the close up quality of "Key West Rocker" The horizontal wood siding juxtaposed with the vertical elements of the palm fronds and chair slats make an interesting composition.

Do I sound like I know a lot about art?

Awwwww I could sit and look at these for hours...of course that might have something to do with the fact that I haven't seen grass in MONTHS!!! lmao
