ASK DR WANG, the psychic betta fish
This week’s letter is from JD, in Palm Springs, California. JD writes:

Dear Dr Wang,

I’m a regular reader of Rick’s blog and been following your column for nearly a year. I think I am the first person from Palm Springs to write in for your wisdom. I moved to the desert four years ago after having accepted an early retirement package from a high pressure job at a large company. I am fortunate not to have to work for a living anymore, so I keep myself busy golfing, gardening and volunteering at all sorts of events. My social life is great, but I am still single and tend to meet other people already in relationships. I am hardly a hermit, but I’m not one to hang out at a bar to meet someone. What do you suggest and what’s in my future?

Healthy, Wealthy, and but not so wise,
JD

Dr Wang responds: Dear JD,

You are correct, after reviewing the underwater archives, you are the first person from Palm Springs to write in! Your query is quite interesting, as you left off several details about yourself, and did not indicate your lifestyle, perhaps to retain some anonymity, which I understand. So I will work with what you have offered-I hope you write back in a month or two and let me know how accurate I am. As I swam past The Great Bubble Wall, a ray of afternoon sunlight caused a “rainbow effect" on the bubbles, suggesting that you are probably gay. At least you are living in the right town. Indeed, you are quite fortunate in life and it seems about to become luckier.

The social things you have been doing are not putting you in contact with anyone on a regular basis. You need to do something that will put you in the same place predictably for a period of time. That way if someone likes you they know where to find you again. I am glad to hear you are not a bar barnacle, there is nothing more pathetic than a person sitting in a bar drinking like a fish day after day. Leave that to me and my fellow aquatic acquaintances!

I foresee you working part-time in a local gallery, where you will have the opportunity to meet some very worthwhile and cultured men. Before the new year, you will meet someone of interest.

For some reason I see you moving into a new house in early 2008. It is one of the former homes of crooner Frank Sinatra. Be careful when you do any renovations to the interior walls. The house is haunted by he ghost of Ava Gabor. Her ghost will provide hours of entertainment for you before she is finally released when you uncover a gold framed vanity mirror hidden behind a wall that a prior owner built over rather than remove. The mirror was used by Miss Gabor and was her favorite. You and your new “friend” will eventually host an “Ava Gabor film party” at your home. Good luck, and have fun.
In the meantime, keep swimming upstream.
-Dr Wang

I couldn't get past that brain falling out thing. I think I lost my brain the last time I had a major sneeze.
