It's another day of Rick's Roadshow in Germany, where I will be for the next few days. Yesterday I was in Bremen, a port city in northern Germany, dating as far back (in some form) as 150 AD. During WWI, Bremen was a stronghold for the allies when the British captured it and became an American occupied area. It is a lovely city with plenty of character and beautiful architecture. Here is a somewhat blurry photo of me standing outside, next to a bronze statue, but the blue glass rectangle to my left is an aquarium, which I thought was an interesting touch.
above left: When I arrived in Bremen, I immediately remembered that I barely speak any German, which is always a challenge. The friendly Hilton-Bremen sign was a welcome sight for sore eyes. Much to my delight, the hotel staff all speak English. Above right: This medieval knight was standing in the center of the main square.

above: this may be difficult to see from my photos, but check out the detail on the side of these buildings. above left has a coat of arms and above right has all sorts of animals carved into the stone. So far I have found Bremen to be quite beautiful. Check back tomorrow for more fun in Germany!

Quite the coincidence, that we all speak English at the Hilton Palm Springs too :-)
Only we don't speak much German, with the exception of the restaurant manager, Gary Von Gleiss, who is, obviously, a German.

I am so in awe of the building design in Bremen--simply gorgeous!! I loved your pictures of the castle too--and I had no idea the doors were that huge...
In one of the historical homes here, they have those same servent bells, too. The title on the bells are a little different, however. :D

The architecture in Bremen is reminiscent of the Low Countries - the Netherlands and Belgium.
It's pretty, but I prefer the warmth of those red bricks.
As for English probably since it is a Germanic language, the northern Europeans speak it much better than the southerners.
